Avon Park Fire Department’s Centennial Celebration on December 8th

(Avon Park, FL -- October 30, 2023)   The Avon Park Fire Department is celebrating 100 years of service to the community. On Friday, December 8, from 4 to 6 pm, the Avon Park Fire Department’s Centennial Celebration will include fun activities for our citizens of all ages including games, goodies, food, and a history display of the fire department’s 100 years. The event will take place at the Avon Park firehouse at 98 S. Delaney Avenue and is free and open to the public.

“We have professionally served our community for the past 100 years and we look forward to continue growing as a department and serving our community for the next 100 years,” says Fire Chief Andy Marcy, adding: “There have been many changes to our job over the 100 years, but what has stayed constant is our commitment to public safety, fire prevention, education and community outreach.”

The current firehouse, built in 1976, houses three types of fire trucks, brush, engine and ladder, and a rescue boat for the multiple lakes within in the city limits. There are also in-house facilities to clean bunker gear as well as work out equipment for the firefighters. The fire house will be open to the public, and the

firefighters will be on hand to demonstrate the fire equipment, answering questions about the station and fire safety, and serving snacks and drinks to the public.

“We look forward to our citizens joining us for the centennial celebration activities and enjoying meeting with our current and retired firefighters” says City Manager, Mark Schrader.
