City Manager

The City of Avon Park in Highlands County, Florida, which was created by the Florida Legislature, shall continue as a municipal corporation with a Council-Manager form of government under the Charter for the City. The city manager is appointed by the council.

Mark C. Schrader is the current City Manager.

POWERS AND DUTIES

The city manager shall be the administrative head of the city and shall direct and supervise the administration of all departments of the city except the office of city attorney and shall attend all council meetings unless excused by council and shall have the right to take part in discussions. The city manager when necessary hires, suspends, demotes, or dismisses any city employee under the manager's jurisdiction in accordance with law and the personnel rules approved by resolution of the council, and may authorize any department head to exercise these powers with respect to subordinates in that department. The city manager creates and discontinues any department or division in the city administration that the city manager deems necessary for the good of the city.
