Community Redevelopment Agency

The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is a special-purpose entity created to revitalize targeted areas within Avon Park, including the Main Street, Southside, and Airport districts.

CRAs were established in Florida as a tool to address slum and blight by encouraging reinvestment in struggling neighborhoods. Funded through tax increment financing—not new taxes—the CRA reinvests increased property values back into the district to support infrastructure improvements, affordable housing, business development, and quality-of-life projects. While the Avon Park CRA Board is made up of City Council members, it operates as a distinct body focused on implementing the city's approved redevelopment plans. The Avon Park CRA supports this mission through grants, coordinated public improvement projects, and works in partnership with other agencies to promote economic vitality, preserve historic areas, and build a stronger, more connected community.

Avon Park CRA's are governed by an:

  • Advisory Board that meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM in the Avon Park Council Chambers. Recommendations from the Advisory Board are then presented to the

  • City Council, which also serves as the CRA Board. The CRA Board meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 5:30 PM (unless otherwise stated), also at the Council Chambers.

  • Joint CRA workshops and community town halls are held throughout the year as needed to gather input, share progress, and align on priorities. For calendar of upcoming meetings / events, click here
