Within City Limits

Verona 

41 acres, maximum depth is over 80 feet, considered one of the deepest and oldest natural lakes in Florida. Boat ramp at the end of Church Street in downtown Avon Park. Popular with personal watercraft, kayaking, scuba diving and shore fishing. Public beach, pavilions, playgrounds, tennis courts, and bathrooms at Donaldson Park, 109 E Main Street. There are sidewalks and viewing areas around the entire lake. 

Isis 

53-acre lake, maximum depth is 63 feet. Known for its clarity, there is limited public access.

Tulane 

89 acres, maximum depth is 70 feet, considered the oldest natural lake in the United States. A sinkhole lake, visibility is up to 30 feet. There are stable populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie. A boat ramp is located on the west side of South Lake Boulevard. There is a public beach with picnic tables, grills, and shelter, as well as a boardwalk on the east side.

 

Bordering City Limits

Anoka

48 acres, maximum depth is 50 feet. Borders US 27 with fishing available on east side of road. Easements at the end of Florida and Percy Avenues.

Byrd

69 acres, maximum depth is 32 feet. Surrounded by houses, there is public access on the north side. Beautiful gazebo to sit and relax. Adjacent to US 27 and railroad tracks.

Brentwood

60 acres. Between railroad tracks and US 27, no public access.

Damon

282 acres, maximum depth is 15 feet. Public boat ramp on west side. Just east of US 27,

Denton

66 Acres, spring fed, maximum depth is 50 feet. Access on Lake Denton Road, there is parking on adjacent property owned by the Lake Denton Church Camp. It is a popular place for scuba diving certifications and busy most weekends.

Glenada

197 acres, maximum Depth is 35 feet. SFSC is on the north border, citrus groves on the south. There is a public boat ramp with parking on the west side off USN 27. 

Leila

162 acres. Boat ramp on east side at the end of Martin Road. Public access at the cemetery at the end of Cummings Avenue. Near railroad tracks and South Florida State College.

Letta

478 acres. Public boat ramp on north side just off Highway 17.

Lillian

36 acres, maximum depth is 45 feet. No public access.

Little Bonnet

81 acres, maximum depth is 18 feet.   Boat ramp along the northeast shore, railroad tracks on southwest corner. No structures currently on Lakeshore.

Little Red Water

313 acres, maximum depth is 16 feet. Shallow banks on most banks. Multiple public access on north side.         

Lotela 

802 acres, maximum depth of 36 feet. Boat ramp at the end of Ben Hicks Road on the east side and off Lake Lotela Drive on the south side.

Pioneer

93 acres, maximum depth of 30 feet. Public boat ramp on north side.

 

Nearby

Olivia

89 acres, maximum depth of 45 feet. A boat ramp is located on the north side of the lake on Nautilus Drive. The entire shoreline is parkland with several benches and shade trees.
