Main Street

The City of Avon Park is actively working to enhance Main Street through a series of coordinated improvement projects focused on safety, accessibility, and overall appearance. These efforts are being completed in partnership with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and include both current work and planned future upgrades. Because Main Street is owned by FDOT, all improvements require coordination and approval through the agency as projects move forward.

Projects along Main Street include streetscape enhancements, sidewalk and pedestrian improvements, landscaping, and long-term corridor planning. Each initiative is designed to improve the experience for residents, visitors, and local businesses while supporting the continued growth of our downtown.

The sections below provide updates on specific areas of Main Street, including landscaping improvements, the Mile Long Mall enhancements, and upcoming FDOT-led projects.

Landscaping enhancements along Main Street continue to move forward as part of the City’s ongoing beautification efforts. These improvements are focused on creating a more welcoming and visually appealing corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Planning and coordination efforts are ongoing to ensure landscaping elements are cohesive with upcoming roadway and infrastructure improvements.

⭐ Current Work Underway: Crews are actively working in the median at the intersection of Main Street and US Highway 27. This work is preparing the area for future landscaping installation and enhancements.

Additional updates will be shared as new landscaping elements are installed and progress continues.

The City of Avon Park is continuing coordination with FDOT to advance sidewalk and pedestrian improvements along the Mile Long Mall corridor on Main Street. This project is focused on enhancing walkability, safety, and connectivity between key areas within the downtown.

Based on ongoing discussions, the City is working to move forward with completing the eastern portion of the sidewalk loop, while planning for the western crossings and additional sidewalk segments as a future phase. This approach allows progress to continue while maintaining flexibility for permitting and coordination.

Conceptual plans have been developed and are included for reference to show the overall vision of the project.
