Highlands County provides a variety of programs and services to assist residents. Programs include:

The Community Programs department is responsible for all community-based programs and activities of the Board of County Commissioners. The department is a collaborative hub for resources (federal, state, local, private and non-profit) designed to aid economically disadvantaged individuals and families in our community. Staff coordinate a variety of assistance to individuals and families through eligibility specialists. These specialists screen for available resources and provide direct services, and information and referrals to other agencies.
